Domestic Violence, Breaking the Silence

Domestic Violence, Breaking the Silence.

Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone, yet the cycle of violence is often denied, excused, or misunderstood.  When the abuse is emotional or psychological rather than physical, this can be especially true.  No one should live in fear from a relationship or a person they love.  The following worksheet and video provide what typical cycles of violence and power and control look like, but it is important to remember that not all domestic violence relationships fit the cycle.  If you recognize these signs in yourself or someone else, reach out, there is help available.

This powerful Ted Talk video by Leslie Morgan Steiner shows how she fell madly in love with a man who routinely abused her and threatened her life. Steiner tells the dark story of her relationship, correcting misconceptions many people hold about victims of domestic violence, and explaining how we can all help break the silence.
